So SMU lost to Tulane …
Like with the loss to TCU I tell them they need to move on. And this time they did in a record breaking way. They played a dramatically different U of H team then we’ve seen in the last few years. And the result as it has been all season for the Mustangs … defense, wins, ball-games. The ‘stang defense created 6 interceptions and returned three of them for a touchdown. One of which a nose tackle read screen and played the ball instead of rushing the QB. This along with the ability of the Gilbert/Jones offense to score allowed for SMU to break scoring record. 72 point in a game which breaks the old record of 70 that was set in 1920.
What this game meant for Garrett Gilbert hopefully a the mark of a turn around Gilbert was 60% completions on the night the hishest of the season. The scoring and short fields from the defense helped he throw 4 TDs and 265 yds for the game. Though, in this game, he threw the second least number of passes he seem to have a better handle on the offense.
Next week they have Memphis who average 18.5 points a game which is good news for this defense strong Mustang team, as they average 23 points per game, and have the stronger schedule which definitely weighs down their scoring numbers. BUT DON’T DO WHAT YOU DID AGAINST TULANE AGAINST MEMPHIS
